Clean up some checks / comments

For heretic:

demo_compatibility = true;
compatibility_level = doom_12_compatibility = 0;
comp[x] = true;

Given these assumptions, we can remove a bunch of redundant checks (verified by demo syncing).
This also removes a few comments I ran into while going through things.
