This small Maven project contains a handful of generic DSpace Curation tasks for teaching and
demonstration purposes. Example configuration files have been provided as well as Java source
and a Maven build configuration.

To build and deploy these tasks:

- Clone the source from github: git clone git://github.com/kshepherd/Curation.git
- Either create a project from this cloned source in your favourite IDE, or change to the directory in a command prompt
- Build with Maven from your IDE or with the command "mvn package"
 (this may take some time for the first build, as it needs to download a lot of dependencies)

 A few jars will be created in your 'target' directory once the build is complete. I recommend using the bundle,
   "CurationTaskDemos-1.0-bundle.jar" as it is already bundled with dependencies outside of DSpace, so you can deploy
   this single file without worrying about copying in other dependencies.

 You can edit pom.xml as you add new Maven dependencies, or if you wish to change the version of DSpace API to compile
 against. The default version of the DSpace API that this project compiles against is 1.7.2.

 (note: these tasks are all so simple that they will probably work from 1.7.0 - trunk without any changes to the pom)

 To deploy these tasks, you can either alter your DSpace build process so that this bundled .jar is pulled in with
 other libraries, or you can manually drop it into [dspace]/lib (for command-line execution) and into
 [/path/to/deployed/XMLUI/webapp]/WEB-INF/lib for execution via XMLUI.

 Before the tasks can be run, you will also need to configure them in [dspace]/config/modules/curate.cfg, eg.

plugin.named.org.dspace.curate.CurationTask = \
  ...some other tasks here.... \
  org.dspace.ctask.demo.NameOfCurationTaskClass = shortname

  If you want the tasks to be invoked from XMLUI edit item/collection/community screens, you will also need to
  add the short names to the 'ui.tasknames' list in curate.cfg

  No restart is needed to invoke new curation tasks from the command line, but you will need to restart Tomcat (or
  your servlet container of choice) to invoke new tasks from XMLUI.

 Brief descriptions of tasks:
 --
 * NoOpCurationTask: This task literally does nothing. I use this as a template for simple tasks and as a teaching
   tool.

 * AbstractTranslator, MicrosoftTranslator, GoogleTranslator: Various translation services. An API key is required,
   and the 'translator.cfg' file needs to be deployed to [dspace]/config/modules

 * BasicLinkChecker, MetadataValueLinkChecker: Simple link checker tasks that report on broken links

 * PolicyChecker: Simple CSV report of publicly-readable bitstreams in an item or collection of items

 * URIGenerator: Generates new dc.identifier.uri values for items. Useful if handle prefix has changed.

 * ExifExtractor: Extracts EXIF metadata from JPEGS and inserts it into item metadata. The 'exif.cfg' configuration
   file must be deployed to [dspace]/config/modules
