Some packages, e.g. mucproc, are written against the LaTeX 3 programming layer (expl3), which currently fails (producing "Package expl3 Error: Required primitives not found" and other errors)

expl3.pdf has this to say about engine requirements:

To use expl3 and the higher level packages provided by the team, the minimal set of primitive requirements is currently

  • All of those from TEX90 ✅
  • All of those from ε-TEX excluding \TeXXeTstate, \beginL, \beginR, \endL and
    \endR (i.e. excluding TEX--XET) ✅
  • Functionality equivalent to the pdfTEX primitive \pdfstrcmp ❌

So \pdfstrcmp is what's currently missing to make LaTeX3 run on Compositor's e-Tex engine. Mkay...
