Hello, my name is Gandhi and I work on research problems in machine learning. This
is wonderful because I get to work on a very exciting intersection of two things I
enjoy very much: mathematics and computer programming. I am currently studying the
many ways neural networks learn data from two or more modalities, especially
auditory and visual information. <br><br>I am a Masters student in Computer Science
at <a href="https://cvit.iiit.ac.in">CVIT</a> in IIIT Hyderabad, advised by <a
href="https://faculty.iiit.ac.in/~vgandhi/">Vineet Gandhi</a>. Previously, I
completed my undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at IIT Roorkee, India where I
worked with <a href="https://civil.iitr.ac.in/CE?Uid=indrafce">Indrajit Ghosh</a> on
faster traffic event detection methods using NLP techniques and studied automatic
traffic control systems using simulations of heterogenous traffic flow. <br><br>
Broadly, I'm interested in finding simple and clean solutions to learning tasks, and
I believe that multimodal artificial intelligence is ripe for new simple ideas that
need to be discovered patiently.<br><br>

Apart from my research, I play football and read books. Seriously, I play a lot of
football and I read a lot of books. I write quite a bit but I can't stand reading
the stuff I've written which is probably what a lot of writers feel, I have a
<a href="http://kyscg.substack.com">Substack</a> to which I hope to start and keep
publishing.<br><br>

Some things I believe in:
<ul>
<li> Move Fast. Move Faster.</li>
<li> Don't stop when you're tired, stop when you're done. <a
href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY7l2pcxdHM">Job Finished?</a></li>
<li> You can't improve what you can't measure.</li>
<li> The laws of physics are the only true limits, you can do more than you think.</li>
<li> Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.</li>
</ul>

Moonshots I would work on if I had the resources:
<ul>
<li> Urban Design. Cities that are green, clean, vibrant and community-centred.</li>
<li> Biology. Understand addiction, aging and cancer.</li>
<li> History. Find Alexander's lost tomb</li>
</ul>

<p>Simply put, this blog contains all my attempts at documenting things I learn in order to
understand them better. Writing helps in clarity of thought$\implies$most bad ideas are
eliminated. Either directly, or indirectly, most of my articles will be about
mathematics, computer science, philosophy and history.<br><br> I also post notes of
lecture series or podcast episodes or paper readings from time to time. My advice for
reading them is not to read them at all. Instead, redirect yourself to the original
source and write your own notes. Then come back and check mine if you still care.</p>

<p>I love getting email. I've met some amazing people this way, and a thoughtful message
from a new person is always a
bright spot in my day. I make a point to respond to every (thoughtful) email I receive.
I've connected to a much broader
variety of people this way than I do in daily life, and it's amazing how much you can
learn from someone if you're open
to it.<br><br>
There's another reason I love getting email from people who read my website. This site
is where I can riff on ideas, be
wrong, and learn from those mistakes. The whole point is to share what I know, and to
learn the rest. Of course I try to
be correct, and I always write what I believe to be true, but the greatest value most
often comes from someone messaging
me to point out a body of research I missed or angle I misinterpreted. In this vein,
please don't hesitate to let me
know what you think!<input type="checkbox" id="cb-1" /><label for="cb-1"><sup

writes it better, T. S. Eliot showed us the way by saying, "Good writers borrow,
great writers steal."<br><br></span></p>
