Pewlett-Hackard-Analysis

Overview of Analysis

The Pewlett-Hackard company is preparing for a large number of employees to retire. In order to prepare for what the company execs are calling a "Silver Tsunami", the company is interested in creating a database to hold information on the retirees and the employees who may be promoted to replace them. They will need a list containing the names and other important information for the retirees in order to prepare appropriate retirement packages.

The second thing the company needs to consider is who they will choose to fill the roles being vacated by the retirees. They will be looking to promote experienced employees who have the desired skills. In order to guarantee that the employees filling the vacancies are ready for the demands of their new positions on Day 1, the comany will begin a mentorship program. Retiring employees who have been with the company since at least 1988 are potential mentors. Current employees born in 1965 are being considered as mentees.

These considerations will allow Pewlett-Hackard to honor their retirees while ensuring a smooth transition into the future of the company.

Results

Summary

Based on the analysis completed for Pewlett-Hackard there will be over 90,000 vacancies due to retirement over the next four years. Pewlett-Hackard has 240,124 current employees and will need to replace nearly half of them during that time. The company is considering employees who were hired between the years of 1985 and 1988 as potential mentors. There are only 33,119 current employees who meet this criteria. With 1,549 current employees meeting mentorship criteria the company will be forced to hire outside the company. It will be imperative to hire new employees who are already well qualified since there will not be enough qualified mentors to profide a full mentorship experience to every new hire.
