The class has been deprecated, but we should actually deprecate it in 0.x release line if we expect to continue supporting it. In 1.x it should be removed entirely. Composer already requires 3.2 or above.
This pull request removes the old proxy class and brings the readme more up to date with the latest features and configuration options added.
