2023 ASA AgHackathon - Soil Volumetric Water Content

This is a public GitHub repository to share the files needed for the 2023 ASA AgHackathon - Soil Volumetric Water Content Workshop, taught by @leombastos.

The workshop was presented on September 5th 2023 for ~2 hours where we covered:

• USDA/NASA Crop-CASMA
• SMAP open data on soil volumetric water content
• Retrieving and downloading SMAP data
• Processing, extracting, and plotting SMAP data for study sites

1. Follow the slide deck here

2. Download this repository to your computer (click on the green "Code" button above and select "Download ZIP").

3. Unzip the repository, launch the RStudio project (by clicking on the "2023_aghack_vwc.Rproj" file).

4. On RStudio, go to the "Files" tab (lower right), click on folder "code", and open file

   • "01 download.qmd" for retrieving and downloading SMAP data
   • "02 visualization" for wrangling and visualizing the dowloaded data\
