Hi,

Thank you for writing such a useful project!

Kata Containers wants to use cgroups-rs for the rust-agent subproject. However it seems that the cgroups-rs repository has not been updated for a long time and does not respond to issues and PRs.

So we took the liberty to fork it in Kata Containers organization to apply bugfixes and new features. If the repository comes back to normal maintenance, we'll be more than happy to contribute all the enhancements back. Thanks!

Hey!

I can't speak for @levex, but I guess I'm still a contributor on this project. If we don't hear from them soon, I can probably take over merging PRs, or at the very least facilitate a transition to a new repository.

@tecywiz121 Cool! Are you willing to take over the maintainer-ship of the project as well, if @levex doesn't show up?

I'd like to give @levex at least a week before discussing transferring maintainership, if that's alright with you? Let's reconvene on the 17th.

Sure. No hurry. We can use the kata-containers fork for now. Thanks!

So I think a sufficient amount of time has passed. How would you like to proceed?

Shall we reach out to the crates.io team and request the project ownership be transferred, or would you rather maintain your fork under a different name?

If you are willing to take care of the maintenance, we'll be more than happy to shift the burden ;)

Where would you like to host the project? Are you able to maintain it from here or do you need to fork it to somewhere else? If you need to fork, it may make sense to just fork it from the Kata Container's fork. Then you get most of the new enhancements. And yes, we would like to have the crates.io package to be updated as well.

I've emailed the crates.io team to see what their process is. I'll let you know!

JFYI: I forked this project into https://github.com/ordovicia/controlgroup-rs and redesigned the whole project.
The interface is incompatible.

Update time: crates.io won't transfer ownership without @levex's permission. @levex's email account just bounces messages.

Looks like the best I can do is put a note in the readme listing forks.

@tecywiz121 OK, please help to list the forks in the readme. Thanks!

And I guess it doesn't hurt to ask, would you like to join the Kata Container organization and help maintain the fork there? In future, we may consider renaming a bit so that we can upload it to crate.io as well.

I've added both of your forks to the readme!

I've since left the company where I was using cgroups, so I wouldn't be much help unfortunately, but I appreciate the offer.

Hey folks, apologies for the absence. Do you need me to contact crates.io to move the cgroups name over? I'm happy to do so as I don't really have time to be working on Rust right now.

Hey folks, apologies for the absence.

No worries! Glad you're still around.

Do you need me to contact crates.io to move the cgroups name over?

Although we might reach another decision in the longer term, for now I'd recommend adding a second owner on crates.io (perhaps @rust-bus).
