Description

On the PS Vita version of RetroArch, configuration changes and game saves are all lost when closing RetroArch through what I understand to be the usual method of closing an app on the Vita: pressing the home button and exiting the app. I have seen that exiting through RetroArch's menu does work properly, but home-button exits should be supported or at least there should be a notification or warning about this.

Expected behavior

Game save files get created immediately upon using the save function in-game, config files get saved upon (???--changing configs might not be a good idea because you can completely break it if you accidentally change the player 1 controller to none, for example--that's probably a separate bug. A "save changes" button, maybe?).

Actual behavior

Nothing gets written to disc until RetroArch is closed through its own menu, meaning that all save data is lost if you exit via the home button.

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Start a new game of any game you like
  2. Save the game
  3. Exit RetroArch by pressing the home button and closing the app
  4. Start RetroArch again and see that your save data is gone

This is pretty annoying, I lost whole day progress in Metroid Zero Mission because of that. Still present in latest nightly build as I write this.

The issue still exists as of today (27/04/2022).

Retroarch really has some great emulators bundled in. I've lost so many gameplay hours because there's no warning and I exit the app as usual.

Please fix it !

The fact this hasn't been fixed in 5 years is absolutely absurd lol. Just lost all my progress on Pokemon Fire Red.

Saved over 15 times as I was playing. Couldn't find anyway to exit back to RetroArch so just closed out of the game the same way you close out of any game on Vita. Came back a few days later when I finally get some free time and everything is gone.

Wouldn't be surprised if the total game hours lost across the app is in the tens of thousands now.

Please check if the problem only affects specific cores as mentioned here:

Unfortunately, this is not the intended behaviour. Context:
