Any way to switch between gamepad on-screen overlay and then to a keyboard overlay and back quickly? Sometimes I need to enter text while configuring or playing a game. On-screen gamepad doesn't have enough buttons to map all needed keyboard keys to.

Input overlays are handled by the frontend (I assume it's RetroArch in your case.) The dosbox core doesn't know anything about overlays.

How do you bring up a keyboard overlay in dosbox SVN and then switch back to gamepad overlay in retroarch. There's an on-screen keyboard under hotkeys but nothing comes up when I map it to a gamepad button overlay. Don't tell me that I have to keep the keyboard on screen at all times. It covers too much of the game. Any solutions?

Don't know, but you might ask about it on the libretro discord maybe. Link at the top of this page:
