As detailed in the Parts List, you'll need a either CircuitSetup Split Single Phase Real Time Whole House Energy Monitor Kit or a ShellyEM Energy Monitor. These kits is relatively easy to install but care must be taken since all of your RV's power flows through the installation area.

  1. Pick your installation location. Possible options:
    • The RV Breaker panel: This is a fairly convenient location with easy access to the incoming power wires.
      Breaker Box
    • The output of your Auto Transfer Switch: Another convenient location.
NOTE: This location is only useful if the EV power is split off before the ATS. Otherwise, you'll be measuring the combined EV and Coach current which is not functional for this solution. Auto Transfer Switch output
    • The output of your newly installed Load Center: If you go with the stealth install, you can put the current clamps on the output of the RV output double pole breaker. Load Center RV Output
  2. Disable any Automatic Generator Start system you may have on your RV.
  3. Turn off your RV's shore power breaker at the pedestal.
  4. Unplug your RV's power cord from the pedestal.
  5. Remove the access panel for your desired installation location
  6. Snap the current clamps around the RED and BLACK wires -- NOT the White, Green or bare copper wires.
NOTE: The current clamps have current flow markings on them. Ensure the arrow points TO the RV Side and away from the power source for one leg ( Red or Black ), and away from the RV / Toward the power source for the other leg ( Black or Red ).
  7. Route the current clamp wires out of the enclosure in a way that prevents them from being crimped or cut when you close the panel back up.
  8. Connect the current clamps into the CircuitSetup or ShellyEM.
    • For the CircuitSetup, the current clamps connect via a 1/8" headphone jacks on the side of the main box.
    • For the ShellyEM, the current clamps connect via screw terminals labeled P1+/- and P2+/-. Be sure the leads for one coil stay on the same numbered terminals ( aka, both to P1 ... or both to P2 ).
  9. Power the current monitoring device:
    • For the CircuitSetup, plug the 9vac Power Adapter into an outlet and connect the Power Adapter to the power input of the CircuitSetup main box.
    • For the ShellyEM, use zip cord ( low power 2 wire extension cord works well ) or some other power wires, connecting the white (Neutral) wire to the 'N' terminal, and either the black or red (Line) wire to the 'L' terminal.
  10. Mount the current monitor as you see fit. ( Double-sided tape, velcro, etc )
Note: Since these devices connect via WiFi, you will need to mount them external to the power panel if it's metal.
  11. Re-install the access panel onto the enclosure.
  12. Plug the RV Power cord back into the power pedestal.
  13. Turn on the RV Power breaker at the power pedestal.
