Intuos Pro 2 BT: report pad buttons in the same order as USB #79

Hello,
with a PTH-660 running latest firmware, the HID_GENERIC type handlers number the expresskeys before the scroll ring button, while the INTUOSP2_BT handler numbers the ring button first, which means the button numbers change depending on the connection method.

It appears the usage parser gets all of the WACOM_HID_WD_EXPRESSKEY00 and subsequent before getting the WACOM_HID_WD_BUTTONHOME, which appears difficult to fix.

To fix this inconsistency this patch goes in the other direction, changing INTUOSP2_BT to place the ring button last. If someone can propose a good workaround for the usage ordering, then I'd be very happy to do it the other way around.

With further testing I see that this breaks the LED toggle behaviour for INTUOSP2_BT: wacom_is_led_toggled expects the first button in any button group to be the LED toggle. So now over BT the first expresskey now cycles the LEDs.

Examining the USB HID descriptor confirms that the centre button is listed after the expresskeys.

I can't find a way to neatly reorder the buttons. The existence of the centre button is not known until after wacom_parse_hid scans the fields, and then by the time it finds the centre button field, the other keys have already been assigned with wacom_map_usage. One could try making another pass through in a separate loop eg. in wacom_post_parse_hid, but there's quite a bit of logic about usage scanning that would be duplicated.

I'm not sure if we want to be changing the button order at this point in time. Supporting a mix kernel behaviors could be problematic, and the change will potentially break people's setups after they do a kernel upgrade. That said, the fact that nobody seems to have noticed before now does imply the fallout might not actually be that bad...

I think your earlier approach of changing the wireless side is the more appropriate solution. I imagine wireless use is less common, so there will be less issue if we break the wireless setups. Also, I really don't want the HID_GENERIC handler to have any more special processing than absolutely necessary. I would investigate to see if it is possible to make wacom_is_led_toggled work with an alternate button.

Aside: Programs like the GNOME Control Center rely on libwacom to determine which physical button is pressed when a kernel event like BTN_3 is received. The different layout between wired and wireless shouldn't matter since each mode uses a different ID that libwacom can distinguish. Unfortunately, it looks like the intuos-pro-2-m.tablet and intuos-pro-2-m-wl.tablet claim an identical button layout, despite that not being the case. An alternative to changing the kernel behavior could be updating libwacom to reflect the actual layout of the Bluetooth interface.

Thanks @jigpu, that all makes sense. I appreciate the importance of stable kernel interfaces in particular.

Speaking as a non-libwacom tablet user, though, I would also like to have consistent behaviour as I switch interfaces. At least one of the tools I use regularly (gromit-mpx) can only discriminate X11 devices by name, for example.

I have amended the patch to test the correct bit for LED toggling. This also then brings the kernel behaviour in line with the libwacom data, as you noted.

ring button, so update the BT codepath to match.

The concept here seems right, this looks like a kernel bug. I appreciate your work on this.

This patch will need a fairly thorough review, especially since it touches the led code. I'm a swamped right now, so it might be a couple weeks until I can take a proper look at it.

The button numbering of the 2nd-gen Intuos Pro is not consistent between
the USB and Bluetooth interfaces. Over USB, the HID_GENERIC codepath
enumerates the eight ExpressKeys first (BTN_0 - BTN_7) followed by the
center modeswitch button (BTN_8). The Bluetooth codepath, however, has
the center modeswitch button as BTN_0 and the the eight ExpressKeys as
BTN_1 - BTN_8. To ensure userspace button mappings do not change
depending on how the tablet is connected, modify the Bluetooth codepath
to report buttons in the same order as USB.

To ensure the mode switch LED continues to toggle in response to the
mode switch button, the `wacom_is_led_toggled` function also requires
a small update.

commit 6441fc781c344df61402be1fde582c4491fa35fa upstream.
