We discovered the fact that twitter provides user account images not for all requests. Images which cannot be retrieved can in fact be retrieved under the same URL after some time. We suspect that twitter restricts the availability of such images on purpose.
The issue has been discovered and tracked in the front-end of loklak in fossasia/loklak_webclient#59
