  1. DM-8026: gcc 6.2 compatibility fixes 

    gcc 6.2 errs on int-to-char narrowing conversions in hex static
array inits used in several places.  Added narrowing.patch, which
inserts static casts around problematic constants (this is a bit
ugly to read, but done the same way as unrelease upstream patch
in order to avoid future merge issues).
