Abandon develop branch

Merge develop branch into master and stop using it.

Is there a pending date for this? It's a bit confusing what's going in master and what's in the develop branch. There are broken issues in master that are included in develop. However, the branches have started to diverge away and it's hard to keep track of where/how to reconcile since there have been so many commits since.
