The integrations in room-assistant all do different things, so there is no overall answer - but in general, room-assistant doesn't call out to ESPHome or other tools for gathering data, only for publishing it. The way you would use the Omron D6T/Grid-EYE for example is by connecting the sensor to the i2c interface of the machine that is running room-assistant. On Pis you would use the GPIO pins for that and then match the connections on both sides using a pinout diagram. I think the Grid-EYE is also sold as part of the Sparkfun system, which would potentially allow you to use their connectors - that would get you around soldering and/or crimping cables. Do note that due to platform limitation the Omron D6T and Grid-EYE don't work on the add-on atm - if you require this as a use case I can give you a workaround though. |

Thank you. So... for running multiple room assistants, as described in the docs, to host multiple sensors I need multiple hardware (Pi) to acheive the connection of sensors (i2c e.g.) to it. There is no way to connect sensors to an addon running in homeassistant when the underlying hardware does not support this, correct? |

That is a real pity... to install a Pi in a room for presence... bit overkill... |

Here is a very fresh joiner of room-assistant. Well, joiner is a big word, I am starting to read an try. I have trouble in basic understanding, please help me out here.
I run homeassistant as a virtual appliance. It is as far as I know the "HomeAssistant OS" installation and I have room-assistant installed as the addon.
Via MQTT I can see some devices which are presented to homeassitant. But now comes the part I do not understand and I would like some guidance here.
It is about the "integration" of sensors in room-assistant. Let's take an example. This sensor:
https://www.room-assistant.io/integrations/omron-d6t.html. it is added in the local.yml (although not connected :-)).
Showing:
Where do I connect this sensor to room-assistant? Do I need to add it as an entity in home assistant? Or can it be on a esphome device? Or does home-assistant rely on the fact that such a sensor need to be connected to a GPIO pin of e.g. a Pi? Please help me on:
How to present sensors to room-assistant in this type of setup.
Thank you in advance.
