This change isn't allowed as per update policy. You need to file a Port Abandoned ticket if the maintainer is not maintaining the port sufficiently.

Thanks, Mojca, but I'm easing off MacPorts for the foreseeable future and making room for others to step up.

Ken, I'm willing to assist, as time allows. But given how critical these ports are - and how important it is to have an intimate understanding of every possible impact/nuance of any potential change - I'd only feel comfortable doing so via formal PRs. (Though PRs would probably be a good thing anyway, as it would help with knowledge-sharing, etc.)
