highlight buffer with diffs from HEAD

I'm just starting to use magit and I'm really enjoying using it. However, one thing I miss - vs an IDE experience - is the ability to easily see the changes in my buffer vs HEAD. e.g. dark red background for deletions, purple for modifications, and green for additions.

Is this possible?

Don't know about a mode that signals changes using the background color, but there at least a couple that uses the gutter and/or margin to do that:

• diff-hl can use either the gutter or the margin
• emacs-git-gutter can only use the gutter IIRC

You might find other pointers in either/both repositories, check them out.
