Hey,
I can't get telegram-purple to work with GNOME Empathy. It shows okay as an option when adding a new account, but after inserting my phone number and clicking "Add", nothing happens. the window stays, and all I can do is manually close it.

Any idea why? Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this an Empathy bug?

Thanks a lot for your work.

Hey, I managed to get it working by adding the account using gnome-online-accounts. It then showed up in Empathy without manually adding it.

Thanks

I just tested it and there seem to be still a few issues with Empathy

  • Group chats don't show up and you won't get any messages.
  • Protocol name and pictures not displayed properly
  • Account creation does work, but not in the initial welcome wizard that routes you through the first start.
  • The popup that queries for the SMS code is not displayed on startup, so account creation in empathy will only work if you have previously entered the code in pidgin

Cannot authenticate to Telegram using Empathy or Gnome Online Accounts and my phone number.

Could you please provide steps to do this?

I dunno, for me it just worked using Gnome Online Accounts. I received the code on my phone and entered it on a dialog that was opened after adding the account.

No dialog appeared for me.

I'm on ArchLinux, but the version is the same. Empathy's version is 3.12.7, if it helps :-/

I have just pushed a commit that implements the new fallback mode. I've tested it in Empathy 3.10.2 on Fedora20 and it appears to work. If you now log into an unauthenticated account a chat should pop up that will ask you for the SMS code.

It should not be necessary to check the "fallback authentication" option, this is only useful for enforcing the fallback mode in clients that don't return the correct value on unimplemented purple_request() calls.

Does it work for you now?

Will check later.

I tried this with Empathy for some time and the fallback mode seems to work fine, so I will close this issue. If there are some issues please just open a new one.

I could not log in to my account. No chat popped up and I never got a code from Telegram. I tried both Empathy (3.8.6) and Online Accounts (3.12.4-1), with telegram-purple 0.7.0 on Ubuntu 14.10.

I got no popup in Fedora 25 (empathy-3.12.12-2.fc25.x86_64, purple-telegram-1.3.0-1.fc25.x86_64), only a "chat" with the Telegram service. In the end I was acknowledged as authenticated, but that might be because I logged in in Pidgin.
