As I reported on the forums, xorg-server (and I think xorg-server-common?) aren't restored/checked when I install video-ati after video-catalyst uninstall.

That is logical. catalyst-server provides xorg-server. When catalyst installed a downgrade is not expected back to open source drivers. That is why we had the old xorg-server for all drivers for a long time. It is simply not possible satisfy every option here. Only option whould be to add conflict terms for these profiles against Catalyst-{Input, Server, Video} packages ...

Why not adding [newer] x.org dependencies to other drivers?

xf86-video-ati expects X-ABI-VIDEODRV_VERSION=20. I'll try to modify the catalyst-server package in such a way it points to X-ABI-VIDEODRV_VERSION=19 and we will see what that creates ...

Or perhaps, could newest x.org packages be added to the post_remove process?

That would be not logical ...

After uninstalling video-catalyst with catalyst-server 1.17.4-3, and reinstalling video-ati I was still without x.org.

This has to be solved now someway

I wonder if a neater solution couldn't just be... Do away with driver removing, and just make mhwd (or at least MSM gui) always do toggling (between open and closed)?

Or is headless a use-case we care about? Because in that case instead, you could have the uninstallation script also drop sddm.
