I'm trying to construct line symbols with mapserver 6. We have a land use map with different sorts of pipelines and power lines that need to be displayed as dashed lines and small pixmap symbols on top of them (a small circle with a Z inside it for electricity etc.). This doesn't appear to work the same way it used to. I noticed that I can make the pixmap symbols appear under the dashed line, but not on top of the line. As if this wasn't strange enough for me, the same doesn't work for vector symbols at all (this is also a bit of an issue, as I would need this to work for other features, such as ferry lines). I'm attaching an image to help explain and illustrate the problem.

Has anyone else dealt with this sort of thing? Any (workaround) solutions, or do I just have to sit tight and wait for the next release of mapserver (assuming this is something that is being addressed)?

edit: Also, by background is in Environmental Sciences, so go easy with the potential tech-talk :)

I was sceptic at first but am effectively able to reproduce the issue. I'll have a look at this for 6.2

@falsuhail I have fixed this for our 6.2 release but haven't backported to the 6.0 branch. The diff is pretty easy to apply if you need to stick with 6.0

please disregard the previous php commit that erroneously ended up in this issue

Ok, thanks for the info! I made a small discovery related to the original issue here. While constructing a new mapfile with similar features, I had accidentally entered a COLOR value for pixmap symbols. All of a sudden, I can place them on top of the lines! I guess this is ok for now, though something inside me tells me that this won't prove to be a long lasting solution. What I found most interesting was that the vector symbols seem to be working as they should be. Not sure what happened with the latter, as I recall experiencing some issues with them, too. I talked to our IT guy and asked if he had applied the diff, but he only claimed to have restarted mapserver or something. Anyway, thanks for the contribution!
