Currently, maps.me render does not display any area with OSM's tag highway=residential

For example, this square with this tags: http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/174324816

Is properly displayed in mapnik:

But not in maps.me (like many other areas next to it -take a look at the many "gaps" between streets):

As a result there are many missing gaps that look really weird on maps.me maps

Highway areas would be nice to display, but they should never replace the 2D highway=* line, they should be used additionally:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/area:highway#Usage
and

Often other paths such as highway=footway will connect with the edge of the pedestrian area. However, note that few routers will route through the area, most will route around the edge of it.

So while it would be neat to display the areas to represent the plaza correctly, you might want to "fix" your area by adding the highway lines within the areas someone made

You're right that roads should be connected not just to perimeter, so I updated it (see screenshot below of the same area -with far more detail):

The problem with routing should be fixed now, but still I am lacking a render of highway areas.
