Optional logging + gradle upgrades #1

This pull request should:

update the project to use latest Gradle, Android and plugin versions
simplify javadoc generation using a plugin (the old method was not working any more)
fix some warnings in the library
make view size logging optional (this is what I was going for! :D)

What I haven't checked:

signing and maven deployment - hopefully the current code still works, but I have no way to test that
