Do I have to buy an Energy monitor

No, we provide a more detailed 'energy dashboard' that you can log into on a phone or tablet. It shows your usage, the Club's usage and a forecast of generation. see cydynni.org.uk

It is not the equivalent of a freebie 'energy monitor' that is advertised by companies which are promoting smart meters (SMETS), but it does a similar thing. It is a free online service that the club member will have access to when they have joined the EL Club. When you log in, you will be able to see your own personal data on this dashboard as well. Some screen shots below of some of the things you can see, but there is more. In this hot weather, there is no hydro operating at Bethesda and the dashboard is telling club members this.

Thanks Linda - this has arisen in response to people without broadband being able to view energy use directly. Also linked to the distrust of the meter sending data out that the householder cannot view. I assume that people will still be able to buy a monitor compatible with the advanced meter, if they choose to?

HI We can use mobile signal if necessary if there is no broadband - just you can only view it a day later so its not ideal.  You can pick up the dashboard with 3g. No the energymonitors are not compatible. They have to give consent forthe supplier to see their half-hourly data - necessary for Energy Local but they can withdraw it is they wish. Mary

Clip-on energy monitors can be used to keep an eye on how much power is being used at any given time. These are not very accurate but can help you to determine the big uses of electricity.
We are testing a new module for advanced meters, which will enable you to keep an eye on power consumption using your smart phone.
A plug-in monitor can also be used to look at consumption of individual appliances.

Robin -this is regarding the dashboard linked to the advanced meter. You don't need an energy monitor once it is fitted. Ifyou want to look at individual appliances then a monitor that plugs into a plug socket will show this.
