Ok, i have my instance up. The apache was not so hard, but the services and deployment took a while. Also in reply to previous user question it should be mentioned that service examples DO have the user mastodon hardcoded. But more on services below. Apache conf, using passenger. Comments about extra cache control welcome.
That is what i start with. Then i do the certbot command, which inserts rewrites into the 80 config, and creates an ssl 443 config with the same. I usually delete the passenger/app stuff from the 80 port and just leave the rewrite/redirect stuff in. For the services there were examples that required sudo. I (and debian) disagree with sudo in that if a user is compromised it should not have sudo right. So i changed the service files, see below. For that to work, below files have to be in mastodon-sidekiq.service (from sidkiq github):
mastodon-streaming.service , only single instance on port 4000 :

Hi all,
so i am trying to dip into the federated world. I already have a dedicated server and 5 of my own apps running on it with apache + passenger. Since i have done that combo for years i do not know docker/nginx, but would have no problem getting the basic app to run.
The reason i am asking is just that i looked at the nginx config and it has all the cache and streaming stuff in there which i am not so certain about. I think i might get it done, but it just seems worth the question if someone does not have a ready config. I mean my situation of already having a server with apache/passenger can not be that unique, given there are supposed to be 10k servers.
PS. my user is not called mastodon, can anyone say how important that is?
Anyway, any help appreciated, if not i will post my results later
