Pitch

Mastodon shows:

  • Getting Started
  • Notifications
  • Local Timeline
  • Federated Timeline
  • Settings
  • Logout

Since I use direct messages frequently, I’d like to have it there too, after Notifications.

If this is too many icons, I think Logout doesn’t need to be accessible at all time since this is not used frequently is already present in Settings and in the links at the bottom of Getting Started.

Motivation

Put Direct Message, an often used feature, in a place where it’s easy and quick to access them at all times.

This would indeed make things a bit crowded:

I support removing the log out button:

It may also make sense to have them in the mobile tabs bar, but that one is already pretty crowded:
