Introduce toot subscribing for user. When a bell under a toot is clicked, a toot is subscribed. Every time a descending toot of the subscribed toot is created, the user receives a notification with the toot (as if they were mentioned w/o mention).
[EDIT: link does not work anymore, WIP fix]
Motivation
At the moment being, the only ways to avoid missing an interesting discussion through toots are:
following participating accounts;
intervene in the discussion;
coming back to the discussion from time to time (pro tip: with the help of stars, reblogs and bookmars).
Following accounts may be impractical for reasons. Also, the interest is discussion-wise, not account-wise. Furthermore, the utmost part of users in online communities are lurkers as a rule of thumb. In addition, even contributors may choose not to intervene in replying with toots just saying "please mention me" to avoid spam.
The feature aims for a more structured fruition of Mastodon, soothing efforts to keep track discussions of users' interest.
