HTTP Error 422 when trying to copy remote GIF emojis

Expected behaviour

Copying remote should be successful, even if they're animated

Actual behaviour

The server soft-crashes with a HTTP 422 instead

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Try copying remote emojis in GIF format
2. Boom! HTTP 422

I can't even add GIF emojis, my site says PNG only. No clue how y'all do it.

Are you two sure it's about it being a GIF? I've been able to copy and upload some GIF emojis, however, almost all of them fail to do both but because of filesize. I've checked manually a couple times, if it is under 50KB it lets me, if not it crashes with HTTP 422 on copy, and in manual upload it yells at me with "must be less than 50 KB", which makes sense. All of these issues happen because I federate mostly with Misskey and Pleroma instances, and all of those weighty emojis come from over there.

I think this might be the cause of your problems?

Is there any update on this or does anyone know anything about this? I would really like to manage the emojis of my instance but as it federates mostly with pleroma and misskey I'm always stuck on the HTTP 422 blank page

I switched to MK too. Mastodon was just too buggy for me :/
