Interactions with other instances: "We're sorry, but something went wrong on our end"

Expected behaviour

Instances should connect seamlessly

Actual behaviour

Since a couple of days this happens when I try to interact with mastodon.social from my account on mas.to. I contacted the mas.to admin and he says mas.to is working OK.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Just try to reply, boost or mark as favorite a post on mastodon.social from other instance.
2. You probably have to try several times until you finally can interact with the mastodon.social instance.

Can you check which instance is erroring out? Is it mastodon.social or mas.to? (the remote interaction popup flow makes you go through both instances, and the address does not appear in your screencap)
