Pitch

the uploaded images are stretched to the full width of the window in Mastodon - here is an example https://nerdculture.de/@nmouplus/110118430778924664 . On a mobile device, this may not be problematic. On a desktop display, I find such behavior in displaying images to be very user-unfriendly, because:

  • even small images - e.g. an avatar or logo is stretched to the entire width of the stream.
  • images with small resolution look simply horrible
  • the screen space is wasted for the images

I have reproduced the described behavior in Chromium version 111.0.5563.110 (Official Build) snap (64-bit) and Mozilla Firefox version 111.0.1 (64-bit) under Kubuntu 22.04.

Motivation

I ask for a user-friendly display of the images in Mastodon that fits the context and provides a better user experience for Mastodon users.
