Fix antivirus/filesystem permissions. Smash isn't able to save files to disk because your system/AV isn't letting it.

OK, Let's see what we can find out.

Getting information

  • Are you running an Antivirus?
  • What version of Windows are you running?
  • Does the path C:\Program Files\Mator Smash\profiles\TES5\PluginInfo.json exist?
  • Have you run Merge Plugins successfully in the past?
  • Are you using MO/MO2?

Possible solutions

Unblock executable

Right-click MatorSmash.exe, choose properties, and click "Unblock" if it is present.

Take ownership

Take ownership of the Mator Smash folder

Disable Windows Defender / add an exclusion

Windows 10 - add exclusion to windows defender antivirus

Disable third party AV

This depends on your third party AV. Do a google search if you're running one.

Install smash somewhere else on disk

If all of these things don't work then you should try moving smash to a different location on disk.

I got it to work! Thanks for all your help.

I am running Windows Defender. Controlled folder access is off.

The path C:\Program Files\Mator Smash\profiles\TES5\PluginInfo.json does exist, though I did create it when I first encountered the error as an attempt to fix it.

I am running windows 10.

In the past on this computer I has used both TES5edit patches and Wrye Bash Patches.

I am using Vortex.

I have changed the owner to me, I confirmed it by checking the properties, then security, then advanced.

I have no third party AV.

I reinstalled the file to program files (x86) and it worked until I ran a patch. I appears to be unable to put things in its own folder.

Never mind all of that. It works... Haha guess moving it fixed it? Sorry for any bother!
