Batteries are typically housed in the same case as the electronic components. A modular design, although potentially more challenging from a surgical point of view, may be useful for several reasons:
- Battery size could be changed based on study needs (potentially reducing weight).
- Bio-logger electronics can be more strategically placed for recording fidelity (e.g., near the skull).
- Batteries could be 'hot-swapped' for long-term studies without modifying bio-logger placement.
- Modular 'packs' open the possibility of designing wireless charging systems that are more optimally placed.
