Issue details

I am trying to install an older version of mavros (1.17.0) from a forked repository. I have been trying to follow the source installation instructions but I have not been successful.

Installing an older version

What steps need to be taken so that I can install an older version (1.17.0) of mavros?

I have tried following the instructions in issues 1515 and 941 but the instructions are not clear. The solution proposed here does not clearly outline the steps required for someone not familiar with this method of installation. I am trying to change the version tag for mavros in the dependencies.rosinstall file but I don't understand how to actually do that in practice. Can you please share how to do this? The above issues do not outline this.

Installing from a forked repository

If I use a forked repository of Mavros, how do I modifty the installation so that it installs from the forked repository?
Can the rosinstall_generator even be used with a forked repository?

MAVROS version and platform

Mavros: 1.17.0
ROS: Noetic
Ubuntu: 22.04

That's more related to rosinstall, than mavros itself. As i remember you can use version:. Anyway you simply can clone you're repo into a workspace with regular git.
