Can there be another option to cycle through the pictures within given timeframe to give an animated effect, say changing picture every second, and looping back at end of the sequence

Something like that is impossible. The tool is generating HEIC file (image file with metadata). That metadata is used by macOS (Apple) mechanism. And they didn't provide support for something like that.
