Skin Preview Image

SmartAudioSwitcher

This is a Rainmeter skin using UnFold's design to switch audio devices and which requires minimal setup. The skin displays either a headset or speaker icon. When hovering the mouse over the icon, the image slides out to display Headset or Speaker and it's respective icon. If left clicked, the audio output device is switched to the other device (clicking Headset switches to Speaker and vice versa). If right clicked, the audio output device is muted and the icon is updated to display a slash through the image. The skin supports a black icon set or a white icon set, as well as supporting sliding out to the right or left. It also supports updating visualizers if necessary when switching audio devices.

Users typically should not have to edit anything from the .ini file; instead, edits should only need to be made in the Preferences.inc file.

Setup

After installing the skin, navigate to your Rainmeter folder, then into SmartAudioSwitcher/@Resources and open Preferences.inc with a text editor. From here, you should see several variables listed.

Variable options

BlackIcons

BlackIcons can be set to either 1 or 0.

If set to 1, the Black image set is used.

If set to 0, the White image set is used. White image preview

SpeakerName and HeadsetName

These variables should be set to the name of the audio output devices you wish to switch between. To check the name of your audio output devices, right click the speaker icon in your system tray (bottom right of screen) and select Playback Devices. All of your audio devices should be listed. If the devices you wish to switch between share names with any other device in the list, you'll need to change the name of the device to have a unique name. Right click the device, select Properties, change the name in the window that opens, and click OK.

The device name you use for SpeakerName will display the speaker icon Speaker icon preview

and the device name used for HeadsetName will display the headset icon Headset icon preview

DefaultDevice

When the skin is initially loaded (or reloaded), it will scan your devices, then set your audio output to a default device. This can be either #HeadsetName# or #SpeakerName#. Choose which device you want to be your default.

Slide Direction

This variable can be set to either 1 or 0. If set to 1, the skin will slide out to the right (best for when your skin is positioned on the left edge of your monitor or some visual element). If set to 0, the skin will slide out to the left (best for when your skin is positioned on the right edge of your monitor or some visual element).

Visualizer and VisualizerINI

If you're using a visualizer, when you change audio devices the visualizer may cease to function correctly. If that's the case, you may have to change these variables so that your visualizer will continue to function when changing audio devices. Visualizer should be set to the name of your visualizer as it appears in Rainmeter. This is usually found at the highest folder level in your skins folder.

  • Ex: C:\User\[Username]\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\<SkinName> VisualizerINI should be set to the primary ini file controlling your visualizer skin. Typically this can be found in the top folder of the skin.

Advanced Edits

If you have more than one visualizer and need to update the visualizer when switching audio devices, you will need to edit the SmartAudioSwitcher.ini file of this skin.
Open up the SmartAudioSwitcher.ini and scroll down to the [Speakers] and [Headset] sections and look in the LeftMouseUpAction] for [!Refresh #Visualizer# "visualizer.ini"] Immediately after this block, you need to add [!Refresh <Visualizer Name> <Visualizer ini>], but replace <Visualizer Name> with the name of your second visualizer, and <Visualizer ini> with the top-level controlling ini file of the skin. Use quotes around these two variables.
