This is actually a breaking change and not a fix
because I already documented the behavior, but
this package is only a day or two old, it was
only documented in the docstring, I doubt that
any users are relying on it yet, and I think my
previous decision to have it return `None` was a
design mistake, so on balance it seems fine to
just count it as part of the bug+feature release.
