What is it that makes a difference?

Could features be combined?

simple-schema and collection2 are both maintained by me and are intentionally separate. Collection2 uses simple-schema to do its schemas, but having the schema rules and validation separated allows it to be used for other purposes, such as the way my autoform package uses it to do form validation.

EasyCheck is one of a few other similar packages that do validation/schema. At the time I created the simple-schema/collection2/autoform stack, there were no validation/schema packages that did everything I needed. That may not be true anymore. I'm hoping sometime soon to coordinate with some of the other package authors to see if we can consolidate efforts. This will be easier to do once the new Atmosphere is up since it will have package installation stats and ranking, which will give good insight into which packages are most used.
