It looks like you have version 55 of the extension. Please update to the latest version, which should fix this issue.

Hello Mgagls

Thanks you for your respons.
No update is offered to me via the extension manager.
I tried uninstalling this extension and then reinstalling it. But I got the same result.
When I look in the list of installed extensions, this is what I get.

Ah sorry, just noticed that you said you're running Gnome Shell version 42. I'm not sure on this bug and don't have a GS 42 environment for testing, so I'd recommend rolling your extension back to a working version. Here's the full list of system-monitor-next versions that support GS version 42:

If version 55 isn't working for you maybe you could try one of these other versions (I'd start with 43 and work backwards).

Looks like this happens on Ubuntu 22.04 installations with non-default locale, you have to do

sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

and select the meta package C.UTF-8 (at the very top). Even the latest version works then.
No idea why.

TBD: Do we need to add something to the README about enabling the C.UTF-8 locale?

Bummer, but thanks for reporting back, @vinyloup. Have you tried installing version 43 or earlier of the extension?

@vinyloup The screenshot hasn't come through - try posting it via the website rather than email

The following suggestion that a user left in the reviews on the extensions website resolved the issue for me:

sudo apt install gir1.2-gtop-2.0 gir1.2-nm-1.0 gir1.2-clutter-1.0

@vinyloup I believe you were running into this issue:

#64 (comment)

The summary is that you must have been missing some system dependencies (as suggested by @jzskca), but the system dependency help dialog was buggy, so when we try to display the help dialog it just throws the meta is null error. For now we've just ripped out the help dialog, but we'll track the effort of updating it over in #69.

Please try installing the system dependencies and restarting. I'm going to close this under the assumption that this is indeed the problem, but please let me know if that's not the case and we can re-open.

Hello @mgalgs

The problem is still'nt completely resolved but it has improved since I installed all the gir-1.2-* packages, recommended by @jzskca . Currently, I lose the display of the clock, the display of which I can easily find using the Dash to Panel Settings positioning options.
Thanks to everyone who helped me with this problem.
