We've got 4900 registered Substance.io users. I'd like to send them an email asking for help and point them to our campaign.

First off, good idea? 2nd, what should the email sound like?

I think I'd just hand-code the newsletter manually, using the emails from the database. I think I should just send the email in my own name. I don't want this to look like a monthly newsletter. It's the first email we send to our users... and maybe the last one.
