INSTALLING AND RUNNING
______________________
Installing
Preinstall:
Instructions for all OSes
Verify Perl install of 5.8
Verify that Perl and the following NetWorker
programs are listed in the system path:
nsrmm
mminfo
nsradmin
nsrjb - if ejecting tapes with media_report.pl
nsrim - if using prune.pl
Insure that the physical tape drives for use in cloning
are properly configured within networker, and are
correctly associated with the clone pools that
will be used in the clone script.
Windows special instructions
Insure that Perl is associated with the .pl extention
UNIX/Linux special instructions
Change the path to Perl in the scripts if necessary
If ejecting tapes with media_report.pl, insure that it
will be run as root.
Install
1. Extract all files and place into script target directory.
(i.e. /nsr/scripts/)
2. Create the following directories under the target directory:
queuedir
log
lock
Configure
queue_creator.pl
1. create a config file for each destination clone pool
that will be used by the clone script.
(e.g. queue_creator_gold.conf)
2. inside each file, you must configure the following attributes
$NSRSERVER - NetWorker server
$QUEUES - How many saveset queue files to create during a given
run of the program.
$DAYS - The number of days back to look for savesets
(set to -10 by default)
$PRIORITY - The prority of the queuefiles we will be writing
1 is the higest priority, 9 is the lowest. Currently
the levels are assigned like this:
Levels:
qf1 - reserved of future use/unused
qf2 - manual emergency clone
qf3 - highest priority
qf4 - high priority
qf5 - medium priority
qf6 - medium low priority
df7 - low priority
qf8 - reserved of future use/unused
qf9 - reserved of future use/unused
@POOLS - A comma separated list of backup pools that will
be cloned to the clone pool listed in $DESTPOOL
$DESTPOOL - The clone pool that will be the destination
of the clone operations.
Optional settings - omit if no need to change
$LOGLOC - The log directory. This is usually set to "log",
and will log in "log" dir in the script home
$LOGFILE - The file that will log all the clone ops.
$QUEUEDIR - The directory where the queue files will be
created and processed. Must be the same for
queue_creator.pl and queue_runner.pl
Special use Variables. These should be omitted from the
config file if not used.
$mmquerystring - describe the list of save sets that will
be returned by the mminfo query
Default: !incomplete, savetime<$DAYS days ago,copies<2
This query selects complete, uncloned savesets
back to $DAYS old. See mminfo documentation for
more information.
$SKIPCHECK - Override the duplicate save set check. This
allows the same save set to be selected by
multiple runs. Leave this set to zero unless you
specifically want multiple save sets created.
3. Create a batch/shell script to run all configurations at one time
e.g.:
queue_creator -c queue_creator_config1.conf
queue_creator -c queue_creator_config2.conf
queue_runner.pl
1. Create a config file for the overall server
2. Update the following variables
$NSRSERVER - NetWorker server
@PHYCLONEDRIVES - quoted list of physical tape drives that
can be used for writing clones
$MAXTRIES - The maximum number of tries for any given
queue file.
Optional settings - omit if unneeded
$LOGLOC - the log directory. This is usually set to "log",
and will log in "log" directory in the script home
$LOGFILE - The file that will log all the clone ops.
$QUEUEDIR - The directory where the queue files will be
created and processed. Must be the same for
queue_creator.pl and queue_runner.pl
$LOCKDIR - location of the directory holding the lock files
(default "./lock")
$STOPFILE - The location of the stop file
(default "./stop")
prune.pl
1. Create a config file for the overall server
2. Update the following variables
$NSRSERVER - NetWorker server
$RETENTION - How many days to retain data on the VTL
@LOCATIONS - A space separated list of VTLs
media_export.pl
NOTE: This script requires root access under UNIX/Linux if the
eject tape function will be used. To use the eject tape
function run with a -e
1. Create a config file for each physical jukebox
2. Update the following variables
$NSRSERVER - NetWorker server
$JB - Physical jukebox name
@POOLS - Space separated list of pools to be ejected daily
$LOCATION - The offsite location (Default "offsite")
$TIME - how far back to eject old tapes
(e.g. "last week" or "4 days ago")
$MAILSERV - Mailserver to send reports.
$MAILER - command used to send mail
