I thought that there should be an existing request for this, and I could not find one. If I drag-and-drop a file to the "Trash" icon, it should move that file to the Wastebasket. Otherwise, it does not have much meaning to be on the dock.

This is definitely something I've been considering for long time, but sadly this wouldn't work in wayland because we don't get enough dnd information at shell level, while it would be easily possible in X11.
So for now I preferred did not implement it not to have different behaviors.
