Description of the new feature / enhancement

This new feature would allow:

  1. Allow a user to start a set of applications, position them in to Fancy Zones and then save the layout referencing the apps and zones.
  2. Allow the user to later recall the preset to reload the same applications to the same fancy zones at a later time
  3. Allow the user to define a file to be loaded with the application as part of the preset
  4. Edit the Preset for application layouts in fancy zones to change the application (executable file) assigned to a specific fancy zone or the file loaded
  5. Associate a hot key with a Fancy Zone Application Layout preset

Scenario when this would be used?

This allows many use cases:

  • Robust business use cases leveraging fancy zones.
  • Robust workspace layouts that allow a user to go instantly back to their workspace rather than having to remember and re-position each application to the desired fancy zone
  • Use of Fancy zones in very large collaborative environments such as visualization centers, meeting auditoriums and other meeting spaces where very specific visual layouts are desired
  • Technical briefings of products, product information, program management tasks and VIP type business meetings where lots of data needs to be effectively arranged into different predefined screen areas

Supporting information

This feature could be similar to the behavior of tools such as the Nvidia Quadro / RTX Experience View tool or products such as Mechdyne Meeting Canvas or Vis Cube.

Window snapping in windows 11 does not in any way provide the functionality described in this idea.

Snap groups may be what you're looking for, it is built into Windows 11.

Windows 11 window snapping in no way provides any of the functionality that I described. The functionality is to be able to save a preset that stores application executable-to-window location and startup file as in quadro RTX desktop manager from Nvidia. I do not believe the "developer" that responded has any clue what I am talking about. Is more description needed?

Apps snapped into Fancy Zones don't currently seem to be treated as a Snap Group by the OS

@OuuenS that is because the two snapping systems are not the same.
