@franky920920: I know exactly what @SomeCallMeTom refers to, and the semi-new "always on top" functionality wouldn't work for this. The "Dock to Desktop" function of OneNote is one of the most clever features of OneNote, and it'd be amazing to have something like this available for arbitrary applications. I think this is a great suggestion. Thinking about how one could implement it however hurts my brain, but in a good way . |
It's potentially related to the request but not truly the entirety of it. It would effectively be a fancy zone, that is exclusive to a single program window, and is always adjacent to an edge of the desktop. This is somewhat like how the task bar behaves. But again this would be a window for a single program. OneNote is truly the best example to understand the functionality as far as control of the program window and desktop's display |

Description of the new feature / enhancement
In OneNote there is an option in View > Views > Dock to Desktop
I would like to be able "Dock" an application to the left or right hand side of the desktop
This behavior is slightly different than current fancy zones in that the "Zone" is not available to other programs, and the monitor is effectively resized to the remainder of the area.
Another way to implement this would be create the add an "allow list" or a "deny list"
Scenario when this would be used?
When I launch certain programs, I want them to target a column zone on the side of the monitor
However, these dock style zones have limited practical application and I typically don't want them to be included when moving windows between zones,
I also want the windows in the "dock" them kept "On-Top" and readily available.
Supporting information
One example is that I want to "dock" my MS To Do app
