Describe the bug

No direction in docs as to how to use the latest source from master. NPM does not support installing packages in non-root directories from a git source. Cloning and installing any individual tool does not work as each package cannot see the other.

Expected behavior

I can install the latest source from master to get bugfixes as the release channel is way too slow.
