Thanks for taking care of this and I'm sorry that I was recently assigned to work on other things. I'm not sure if this will work since the mlx5 driver will need this path.

But only if *RTE_EAL_PMD_PATH. There is also the comment:

When RTE_EAL_PMD_PATH is set, use its glue-suffixed
variant, otherwise let dlopen() look up libraries on its own.
