Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Be in command mode on a code cell
  2. Press M to convert to markdown
  3. Have to double click into the cell in edit mode to make it legible/interpretable.

We can consider keeping the cell in edit mode.

While it makes sense to align this with jupyter lab, we haven't seen feedback from other users yet, I'm going to close this for now but will reopen if we get more complains.
