This milestone we have worked on improving the Export/Import functionality of Profiles. If you do not know anything about profiles you can watch a demo video.

  • Create a new VS Code Profile - or use your Default profile if you prefer that.
  • Try exporting the profile you are using. Try exporting both using a file and a URL.
  • Try sharing the profile you exported with a colleague or with yourself.
  • Apply a profile somebody shared with you (or that you shared with yourself). Apply a profile both via a file and a URL.
  • When applying a profile also click on the Show Contents button - to explore the contents of a profile in detail. Make sure the Profile view properly shows you the content of the Profile.
  • Try to control what gets applied as part of the profile. For example, try to not get Keyboard Shortcuts when exporting or when applying a profile.
  • Make sure the import/export flow is butter smooth 🧈
  • Try importing a profile that already exists asks you to replace the existing or create a new profile and they work as expected.
  • Be creative and try different flows of importing / exporting profiles. We are very much looking for feedback.

Import/export works great! Switching profiles is still a little rough sometimes because of the extension host restart, but that isn't related to import/export
