Can you merge XML documents with xq?

I have ~200 xunit_result.xml files that I would like to merge into one. Each file has a <testsuites> root node and one or more <testsuite> child nodes it. According to the xunit schema the testsuites node can contain any number of testsuite children so this should be usable by other programs when xq is done with it.

My problem is that I can't get it to actually merge the documents, each testsuite node has its own parent testsuites, but I want there to be only one.

Some things I've tried:

• xq -x '.testsuites | del(.["@duration"])' file1.xml file2.xml - this produces two <testsuite> nodes next to each other, which would be correct if I could wrap them in a <testsuites> root node.
• xq -x '{testsuites:[.testsuites | del(.["@duration"])]}' file1.xml file2.xml - this produces two root <testsuites> nodes
• xq --xml-root=testsuites -sx '[.[].testsuites | del(.["@duration"])]' file1.xml file2.xml - same as previous

Is this possible with xq?

I think I got it. The translation from xml to json and back is a little odd and I misunderstood it at first, but this works now:

xq -sx '{testsuites: {testsuite: [.[].testsuites.testsuite]}}' file1.xml file2.xml
