I don't think this should be a forced on all feature. This feature as a customizable setting would be nice. And while you're at it, making nametags fully invisible would be very nice, as an additional customizable setting.

The names tags are added in content cao as a textscenenode. There is no good way that the code can access the player position, that I can see, anyway.

It makes sense to close the newer request. (from the git guidelines, I believe)

If an issue is a duplicate, refer to the first one and close the later ones.

Maybe an API for names would be nice. I would like to see some methods of disguising or hiding your name.
