if you blow up a written book node with tnt, it will drop a "default:book_close" or "default:book_open" item instead of a "default:written_book", and the contents will be missing.

Upon closer inspection, this is not a MTG issue. We don't have book nodes; we only have book craftitems (which survive explosions just fine, as pointed out by tenplus1). That means another mod is responsible for the improper drops (unless there was a bug in the tnt mod).
(Also, I'm not sure books not preserving their contents would necessarily be a bug. It's somewhat unrealistic that you can blow up a book and get back a readable book - or a book at all even...)
